Krzysztof Pilarczyk
Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland

Graduate of chemistry at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (1952), long-time employee of the Haematology Clinic of the Medical Academy in Poznań (1957–1984), Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy for Medical Analytics (1993–1996). He held scientific internships at the Oklahoma Research Foundation in Oklahoma City, USA (1967–1968) and the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry in Prague (1971). Member of the Polish Biochemical Society.

Fascinated by the history of the Shroud of Turin, he was one of the few Polish members of syndonological societies in Turin, Rome and the USA. He collaborated with →Stanisław Waliszewski. In the field of sindonology, they cooperated within the framework of the Cracow Syndonological Study. Władysław Fenrych distinguished himself as an expert on the Shroud, especially in the area of related haematological research. Stanislaw Waliszewski invited him to collaborate on the book The Turin Shroud Today, entrusting him with the preparation of the chapter on blood traces on the Shroud. Fenrych Władysław also wrote a polemic in defence of the authenticity of the Shroud, appended to the third, supplemented edition of the same book (1993), in which he showed that the research on the dating of the Shroud carried out in 1988 in three centres (Tucson, Oxford and Zurich) was incompatible with scientific methodology and that the verdict given by the researchers was unjustified. W. Fenrych not only published, but also participated in symposiums both nationally (e.g. in 1991 in Łódź, organised by Bishop Adam Lepa) and internationally (1993—Rome; 1998—Turin; 2000—Orvieto). He maintained scientific contacts with American sindonologists associated with the Shroud of Turin Research Project (→STURP). In 2000, he organised a meeting at the Poznan Scientific Society with the well-known Italian sindonologist Emanuela Marinelli, whose book The Shroud. An “impossible” image? was published in Polish translation by Waldemar Polczyk in Wrocław (1999). As late as 2001, a year before his death, he reported in Poland on the results of the world syndonological congress in Dallas.
